The Tinaroo Fish Stocking Society Inc. (TFSS) commenced fish restocking activities in 1992 for the purpose of building a sports fish supplemented fishery to enhance the lifestyle of locals and tourists on the Atherton Tablelands.
The success of the Lake Tinaroo fishery is known Australia wide and now caters to sports fishing and is a reliable venue to catch world record fish (19 records). The TFSS annual Tinaroo Barra Bash is the major sports fishing event in North Queensland. It represents the pinnacle of social and recreational use of stocked freshwater fisheries in the North with world record catches of Barramundi attributed to the work of TFSS and a subsequently healthy fish ecology established in Lake Tinaroo.
On the 17th April, we released 1300 advanced juvenile red claw and received a huge response from the public and media. We have a permit but have struggled to raise finances. We are a voluntary group keen on keeping the Lake the major drawcard for the Tablelands. TFSS is asking for monetary assistance to help us restore a viable red claw population which are seen as a high value recreational species.
